John Racher
Brief summary
I am a lifelong drummer who began drumming with the Boys Brigade band in 1973. I joined the 17th Tonbridge Scouts in 1980 and the band at pretty much the same time playing the side drum and latterly the Quads. There is a strong band tradition in my family with my wife Rosie an ex member and instructor and father-in-law Brian Davison the founder and President. My two eldest sons are in this year's competition band and my youngest son will be joining in 2008.
Highlights
There are many, many highlights in my years involved with the band but probably the Albert Hall competitions stand out for the pure adrenalin rush in the moments just before you go on...those of you who have done it will know what I mean!
Aspirations for the band
A clean sweep of the Percussion trophies in the National class would be a marvellous achievement and, with a lot of hard work from the section, that's looking like a good possibility for 2007 so fingers crossed. A band trip to the US is a great target and hopefully we can achieve that in the coming years.
